DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Dayton Police have arrested 20-year-old Nickolai J. Gray Jr. in connection of the shooting of a 2-year-old boy who remains in critical condition at Dayton Children’s Hospital.
Sources say Gray was arrested by the SOFAST Task force around 3:00 PM on the 200 block of Republic Drive in Dayton. Dayton Police Department assisted in this arrest.
Gray Jr. was arrested on three counts of felonious assault, one count of felonious assault to cause serious harm, one count weapons under disability, and one count of Shooting over a roadway.
The shooting happened Thursday, December 24 just after noon at Gettysburg Avenue and James H. McGee Boulevard.
Police say someone fired at least one shot at the car. The vehicle then struck a tree near the Superior Dayton Drive-Thru.
A drive-thru employee told 2 NEWS a woman came into the store with a child who had a gunshot wound in the head. The store manager called 911.
According to police, two adults were in the car at the time, but were not hurt. Police were actively searching for Gray.
Authorities did find shell casings in front of a house in the 4400 block of Blueberry Avenue.
