Community begins cleanup after Christmas day storms

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – The cleanup begins for residents of Jefferson Avenue in West Birmingham, after strong storms tore through the Hillman neighborhood on Christmas Day.

On Saturday morning, the Red Cross and a local church held a breakfast for the up to 100 residents displaced by the severe weather. That includes Loretta Scott, whose home and vehicle were badly damaged Friday night.

“Now all I know to say is ‘Thank you, Jesus.’ When you can’t say nothing else,” said Scott.

Alabama Power crews were out Saturday morning, beginning to restore power to the community. Electricity remains out for several blocks. Stay with WIAT 42 News for updates.
