Rain causes flooding at Troy park

Flooding at Treasure Island Park

TROY, Ohio (WDTN) – Parts of Treasure Island Park was under water Monday afternoon after water breached the banks of the river.

Walking paths, benches and the lighthouse were all surrounded this afternoon but you could still see construction workers. That’s because this area is in the middle of a nearly 2 million dollar renovation project that includes putting in an amphitheater.

People who live in Troy who were out looking at the flood tell us this is not the first time this park has flooded.

“If I live to be 100 years old I will never understand why the city of Troy built this nice amphitheater back here in a flood plain where it’s always flooded,” said Troy Resident, Jeff McConnell.

We asked the City of Troy leaders about that.

They tell us everything that is being constructed at the park is strategically designed with flooding in mind. They say the flooding is a minor set back in construction.
