TROTWOOD, Ohio (WDTN) — Police say a Trotwood woman took matters into her own hands, opening fire on three men who broke into her home, killing one of them.
The deadly home invasion happened before 6 a.m. Monday in the 3200 block of Atlas Road.
Trotwood Police say the homeowner was at home with her four children when three armed men wearing ski masks forced their way inside the house.
Police say the suspects grabbed the woman, assaulted her, and forced her into a back bedroom, holding her at gunpoint. Officers say the suspects were trying to steal a safe. At one point, the woman was able to get away, and grabbed a gun hidden in a dresser. Police say when she fired the gun at the suspects, they ran out of the home.
A bullet hit at least one of them. That suspect was found dead on a neighbor’s lawn about 100 yards away from the home. According to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, he’s been identified as Azikiwe Presley, 29, of Dayton.
“There’s obviously some reason why they picked this house. We’re still not sure as to the reason or the motive,” said Trotwood Police Captain John Porter. “We do know that the male, who is divorced from the female there, uses the home still as a business address.”
Surveillance video from inside the home captured the break-in. Police are hoping that will help them in their investigation. Officers are still looking for the other two suspects. If you have any information, call Crime Stoppers at 937-222-7867.
