Man commits suicide during traffic stop

LIBERTY TWP., Ohio (WLWT) – A man took his life Friday afternoon during a traffic stop on Interstate 75 near Liberty Township.

The incident happened around 1 p.m. Friday on northbound I-75 at mile marker 26, near State Route 129.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said that a trooper pulled over a vehicle for a speed violation when the occupant of the car told officers he had a gun in the vehicle.

The trooper radioed for backup.

When backup arrived, officials said that the man was ordered out of his vehicle. Officers said that the man grabbed a handgun and shot himself in the chest.

The man was taken to Atriuim Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
