Chillicothe homicide suspect dies after shooting self

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (WDTN/WCMH) — 2 NEWS confirmed Wednesday the suspect in a Ross County homicide died, according to the Montgomery County Coroner.

34-year-old Jerry Way was pronounced dead at Miami Valley Hospital at 1:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Way is accused of killing his sister-in-law, 28-year-old April Lazar on Tuesday morning.

Lazar was found behind a home on Laurel Street in Chillicothe, dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Police almost immediately named Way as the suspect, beginning an hours-long search.

Way was later found in Richmond, Indiana, where police chief Jim Branum says he was sitting in a minivan in a parking lot where he shot himself. He was taken to Miami Valley Hospital where he later died.
