SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Camille Cosby will not have to give a deposition in a defamation case against her husband Wednesday morning, as was scheduled. Federal Magistrate Judge David Hennessy granted Mrs. Cosby’s request to have her deposition postponed.

On Thursday, a judge ordered Mrs. Cosby to testify in this case, in which eight women are suing her comedian husband for defamation.  The women claim Bill Cosby sexually assaulted them, then lied about it when they went public with their allegations. Mrs. Cosby’s attorney’s appealed that decision on Monday.

Mrs. Cosby’s attorney’s asked to the plaintiff’s attorneys to delay this deposition while the appeal is heard.  According to court documents,  “Plaintiffs refused and, among other things, threatened to seek the assistance of federal marshals to compel Mrs. Cosby’s deposition on January 6.”

In his order Tuesday, the magistrate judge said that not granting a postponement to Mrs. Cosby would essentially deny her right to any appeal. If her appeal is ultimately denied, the judge said, the court would reschedule her deposition as soon as possible.

The defamation case is being handled out of U.S. District Court in Springfield, and the deposition had been scheduled to take place Wednesday morning in a Springfield hotel. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
