How to increase your odds of winning the $500 million Powerball

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – In the last few days, Powerball sales have seen a huge spike nationwide with the $500 million jackpot. And the same is true here at home.

At the shell station in Moraine they say sales have soared in the last 24 hours.

Wednesday morning the jackpot started at $450 million and in just a matter of hours it rose to half-a-billion. This is the sixth largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history and the largest in nearly a year.

The chances of winning are one in 293 million. If you’re wondering how you can increase your odds, experts say don’t let the machine pick your numbers for you. You should choose your own.

Also, make sure those numbers haven’t been picked in previous drawings. 2 NEWS Reporter Jordan Bowen talked to some ticket buyers here earlier today, who have say they have big plans if they hit the jackpot.

“First of all, I’m going to get someone who can manage the money for me because I would have a hard time trying to manage that kind of money,” Frank Lilly said, who bought his fourth powerball ticket for Wednesday night’s drawing. “I would definitely do a lot of traveling for one. I would probably donate a lot of money.”

Just to give you perspective, you have a better chance of becoming president of the United States, being struck by lighting, and being bitten by a shark rather than winning Wednesday night’s lottery. The drawing is Wednesday night at 10:59 PM Eastern Time.
