COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The Ohio Republican Party is expected to endorse Gov. John Kasich’s bid for the White House during a formal meeting.
The party’s governing body meets Friday morning to make its endorsement for president and take up other business.
Ohio GOP spokeswoman Brittany Warner says many members of the party’s state central committee already have endorsed Kasich individually and have asked the state party to have an endorsement vote.
Ohio’s presidential primary is more than two months away, on March 15. The state will play host to the national GOP convention in July. It’s being held in Cleveland.
Kasich has campaigned this week in New Hampshire. He says he believes a top-tier victory in that state’s February primary will give him the traction to break from the crowded GOP pack.
