WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WDTN) – Troopers from the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal accident that happened Thursday night.

The accident happened on US 33 east of Santa Fe Line Road in Auglaize County.

Troopers say Douglas Stearly, 19 drove his 2015 Dodge Ram left of center to avoid slowing traffic and struck an oncoming car.

That oncoming car was driven by 66-year-old Carl Weitz and 37-year-old Peter Weitz from Las Vegas, Nevada. Both men were taken to St. Ritas hospital. Peter Weitz later died from injuries received in the accident. Stearly was treated at the scene and refused to be taken to the hospital.

Troopers say none of the people involved were wearing seatbelts and alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
