DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Sinclair Community College will host an event today to announce its membership in ASSUR, for the Center of Excellence.

The only other institution in the state with one is The Ohio State University.

This comes on the heels of the college opening a new 3200 square foot flying pavillion on-campus. All of this for unmanned aerial systems.. or drone testing.

The FAA will use the center to focus on safety integration.. with manned aircraft and unmanned vehicles. They will also be researching pilot training and certification, control, communications and traffic management for a program that is in just its infancy of existence.

The award for the UAS Center of Excellence will be given to the community college at 10 AM Thursday morning.
