Storm damaged states could get help from the Miami Valley

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — As crews prepared for Tuesday’s severe weather across the Miami Valley, they were also prepping for a chance to help parts of the country dealing with storm damage.

In the south, severe storms created tornadoes across parts of Mississippi and Alabama.

The same storm system also led to winter storm warning in northern states like Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Storms across the country could create a massive cleanup effort in which the Miami Valley may be called to help.

As part of two national mutual aid areas, Dayton Power and Light could be asked to assist across state lines.

But first, crews will make sure the Dayton area is safe.

“If the home team, the Miami Valley, is in the clear, if there’s a need throughout about 25 states, we will send resources as quickly as possible to go help them out,” said Bruce Koppock, Director of Operations with DP&L. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
