MORAINE, Ohio (WDTN) – The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office confirmed an early morning accident has turned fatal.

Charles W. Howard, 50, of Dayton, died at Kettering Medical Center.

The accident happened around 2:00 Friday morning.

Police tell 2 NEWS a car traveling north on North Springboro Pike in Moraine between I-75 and Arbor Drive lost control of his vehicle and hit a utility pole near the railroad tracks.

Emergency crews had to extract Howard because he was trapped inside the car.

North Springboro Pike north of the 75 interchange was closed for a few hours while police and emergency crews worked to free the man; however, the intersection is now open.

Police say speed and alcohol may have played a role in this accident but it is still under investigation.
