Body of man who jumped into Little Miami River to evade police recovered

LOVELAND, Ohio (WDTN) — Police have recovered a body from the Little Miami River.

On Saturday, after 4 p.m., the Warren County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Loveland Police Department about a body found in the Little Miami River, near the dead end of Betty Ray Drive in Loveland.

The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy and identified the body as Aaron Anthony Berns, 27, of Morrow.

Berns went missing on New Year’s Day after fleeing from Warren County deputies and jumping into the Little Miami River. Berns was being questioned for a fire in the Village of Morrow.

Family, who held a vigil in his honor Sunday said Berns was suffering from undiagnosed post-traumatic stress disorder and wonder if changes they made could have lead to a different outcome.

“Why did this have to happen to him? Why did he have to end up this way? What if somebody could have given him the help he needed maybe before he came home maybe somebody could have seen that this was going to happen,” said his mother, Connie Berns.
