Car hits building, fire hydrant, knocks out power

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) –  A car accident Friday morning knocked out power in Dayton.

The accident happened around 5:00 a.m.

Neighbors tell 2 NEWS a car hit a fire hydrant, utility pole and three buildings on North Main and West Hudson Avenue. At 5:30 Friday morning, DP&L reported as many as 21 customers lost power. Power was restored around 7:00 Friday morning.

The intersection was closed for a time Friday morning while crews worked to clear the roads.

Dayton Police have not yet commented on the extent of injuries from the crash, or what may have caused the accident.

City of Dayton Building Inspectors and Traffic Signal officials were on the scene after police cleared N. Main St.

Building inspector officials are working to determine the structural integrity of the building that took most of the damage. Neighbors say the building was vacant at the time of the crash.

63-year-old Jackie Robinson was arrested Friday and charged with OVI, assault, and aggravated menacing. Robinson is currently in the Montgomery County jail.
