CENTERVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) – A Centerville church is playing the role of fairy godmother and turning girls into Cinderella. For six years, Epiphany Lutheran Church on Far Hills Avenue has been holding “Operation Prom Dress”.
The church invites girls for a day of pampering and lunch. It’s for girls who can’t otherwise go to prom because of financial reasons. The girls can pick from more than two-thousand dresses, shoes, and accessories most of them donated from the community.
Volunteers help girls with makeup, hair, alter dresses and the day ends with a photo shoot.
“It is absolutely incredible we see them walk in in their T-shirts and sweats and their whole personality is just transformed by the end of the day. Our goal is to let these young ladies know that there is a God who loves them and a community that cares about them,” says Tonya Johns Operation Prom Dress Organizer.
Dress, including plus size, shoes, jewelry donations can be dropped off at Epiphany Lutheran Church.
Last year they served nearly 200 girls. Operation Prom dress takes place March 19th.
