Police find drug paraphernalia in reach of kids

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A woman was arrested after police found drug paraphernalia in her van within reach of her two young children.

Police pulled over the van in the 3600 block of Germantown Street around 4:45 p.m. Saturday for several traffic violations.

When officers talked with the driver, he told them he did not have a valid license. Officers said there were young children in the vehicle as well as a female passenger. Police put the driver in the back of their cruiser since he didn’t have a valid license. Officials asked him if he had identification with him, and he said it was in the van.

Police said when they approached the vehicle to retrieve the man’s ID, the woman in the passenger seat had her pants unzipped was trying to hide something between her legs. Officers said they ordered her to stop, and she showed them a plunger cap to a hypodermic needle. The woman was ordered out of the vehicle and put in handcuffs.

Officers recovered two hypodermic needles on the floor on the passenger side. They said one of them was loaded with heroin. Police said they also found a plastic bag with suspected heroin residue inside.

Police said the needles were located within a foot of a two-year-old and five-year-old in the car.

According to the report, the man told police he came to Dayton to do work on a vehicle and then went to the area of Nicholas Road and Gilsey Avenue so his wife could purchase heroin because he said she was going through withdraws. He reportedly told police his wife uses heroin everyday.

The man was issued a summons for permitting drug abuse. He was given citations for driving without a license and released. The vehicle was towed from the area.

Morgan Moorman, 33, was arrested on child endangering and drug charges. She was booked into jail and is expected in court Monday.
