DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Dayton Police are investigating after a woman was pistol-whipped and robbed.

Police found the victim on the ground in the 2700 block of North Gettysburg Avenue after 3 a.m. Saturday. They said she was bleeding from her head.

The 23-year-old victim said she had been at a friend’s house located on Wentworth Avenue. She said as she crossed the street, a man with dreadlocks wearing all black walked up to her and pointed a gun at her without saying anything. She said she then knocked the gun out of his hand, and he began to wrestle her to the ground. She said he tried to then take her purse, but he couldn’t get it off of her shoulder. She told officers he hit her in the head with the gun, and the gun went off but the bullet didn’t strike her.

The suspect took her cell phone and ran between some apartment buildings.

She was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital by medics and is expected to recover.

Police are still looking for a suspect. If you have any information, call Crime Stoppers at 937-222-7867.
