Benny Hamilton, 31, is accused of walking into Sammy’s Food Mart on South Smithville Road Feb. 25 with a knife and wearing a bandana demanding money.

The clerk asked the suspect if he was kidding several times, and the suspect said he was not. The employee recognized the suspect’s voice and glasses and knew the man was a regular in the store.

The police report says the employee told the suspect she knew him and was going to call the police. The suspect then said, “I’m just playing,” pulled his bandana off and smiled. He then left the store.

He will appear in court at 8:30 a.m. on March 29.
