Child hit by car, taken to Dayton Children’s

A child is struck by a vehicle in the 3000 block of Nicholas Road in Dayton Sunday (WDTN Photo/Darren King).

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A child has been taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital after being struck by a car in Dayton.

It happened around 6:20 p.m. Sunday in the 3000 block of Nicholas Road.

According to the 911 call, the child is a 10-month-old girl. Police tell 2 NEWS that the preliminary investigation shows that the father of the child was sitting in the passenger’s seat of the car with the door open and wanted to listen to the radio station and to do that, he had to put the car in gear.

At the time, the child was sitting in her stroller outside of the car near the opened door and was hit when the car rolled backwards, according to police. The child was dragged by the car for a “short distance” but is currently in stable condition at Dayton Children’s Hospital and was conscious at the time of transport.

Police are working to determine whether or not charges will be brought against the father.
