SIDNEY, Ohio (WDTN) – Officials confirm that a mother and child died in a house fire in Sidney.
The coroner’s office confirms the victims as Goldie North, 35, and Luana North, 3.
Multiple agencies worked to put out the fire. It started around 2:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Pomeroy Avenue.
Neighbors tell 2NEWS a man tried putting out the flames with a fire extinguisher, but the smoke and flames were too intense. Meanwhile, a Sergeant Warren Melerine, with the Sidney Police Department, was able to kick down a door and guide at least one man out of the home.
Sidney Police provided dash camera video of the officer running toward the burning home. The clip posted here has been edited for time.
Two male adults from inside the home were taken to Wilson Hospital for smoke inhalation.
Several firefighters were also taken for treatment for smoke inhalation.
The State Fire Marshal’s office has been called to investigate the fire.
A cause and origin of the fire has not been determined yet.
