SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A federal appeals court reinstated New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s 4-game “deflategate” suspension. Monday’s ruling overturns a lower court’s decision to vacate Brady’s suspension last season.

The decision has nothing to do with whether Brady’s footballs were under-inflated, rather if NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was within his rights to suspend Brady. Brady has 14-days to appeal.

Attorney Stephen Spelman told 22News, “Having lost at the appeals court, it will be a tough road for him at a rehearing. He’s got a shot, but Goodell’s power is very broad as the arbitrator under the collective bargaining agreement.”

Brady could also appeal the decision to the entire panel of 21 judges in the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals, or even the U.S. Supreme Court. Spelman said appeals to the entire panel are usually cases of extraordinary importance.
