Theft getaway ends in crash, arrest

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – Springfield police arrested a man Monday after they say he crashed his car trying to get away from a theft at a Family Dollar.

According to a police report, Travis Seelig, 40, was arrested after he crashed his car into a pole in the 2100 block of East  Main Street.

The store manager told police he saw Seelig run from the store with a basket full of merchandise and get into a car in the parking lot. The manager said he saw a woman get out of the car and Seelig speed off toward E. Main St. Seelig hit a pole while he attempted to go east on East Main Street.

The police report says the store manager then ran to the car and asked if Seelig was okay, then recovered the stolen merchandise.

Police say Seelig was arrested for theft and cited for Failure to Control, Driving under Suspension and have an expired driver’s license.
