DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – 22-year-old Tyler A. Cross of Dayton died and three others were injured after two vehicles collided in Dayton.
Police and multiple medics were dispatched to the intersection of Ruth and Jerome avenues after 11 a.m. Saturday after the crash.
Officers said they attempted to pull over both vehicles at separate locations for traffic violations before the collision.
Dayton police officials said there was no police pursuit, but both vehicles sped off from officers to avoid being stopped.
“It’s absolutely outrageous behavior to be driving like that in a residential area and it does show you how serious it is to drive at those speeds and to not comply with the orders of a police officer,” said Maj. Matt Carper with the Dayton Police Department.
The passenger in one of the vehicles was killed on impact. Meanwhile, three others were taken to the hospital with injuries.
Heroin and a hand gun were confiscated at the crash scene.
One of the vehicles, a silver Toyota, was discovered to have been stolen from Harrison Township.
“They don’t seem to be connected at this point, but were still investigating to see if there’s any connection,” said Carper. “It is awfully coincidental that there is heroin in both of the cars that were involved in the traffic crash and there was a hand gun in one.”
The identities of those involved in the crash were not immediately released.
