DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A man was arrested after police said he was driving while under the influence of heroin and had a large machete.
Officers were called to the McDonald’s located at 1070 South Smithville Road Saturday around 3 a.m. after a witness called police saying a man was passed out behind the wheel of a running car behind the restaurant.
When officials arrived, they said they were unable to wake the driver and found a ten-inch unsheathed machete sticking up in between the driver’s seat and the center console. Medics were called and administered Narcan to the driver.
They said when he started to regain consciousness, he became combative and ignored commands.
Matthew Lowe, 21, was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and OVI. Before being booked into jail, Lowe was taken to Miami Valley Hospital for more treatment for the overdose. Doctors told police they believed Lowe was also drunk.
Lowe reportedly told officers he was at a party with a friend and did not remember getting into his vehicle. He admitted to police that he was drinking and snorted a line of cocaine that might have been laced with heroin. He also said he wanted to show the machete to his friends, according to the police report.
Lowe was booked into the Montgomery County Jail. He’s expected in court Monday.
