DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) –   Before coming to the University of Dayton,  Steve McElvene played basketball at New Haven High School, near Fort Wayne, Indiana.

He had just visited his alma mater earlier this week to speak to students about how he turned his life around.

Glenn Marini from our sister station WANE in Fort Wayne broke this story. He remembers not only McElvene the basketball player, but also McElvene the man. 2 NEWS Anchor Mark Allan spoke with Marini Thursday

WANE Sports Director Glenn Marini said, “Steve was a guy who put in a lot of work. At 6-11 you didn’t miss him when he was on the basketball court , but as big as he was physically, his smile was just as big. He was a guy who enjoyed being around the team, being around teammates.”
