Clearcreek Twp. alleged police impersonator turns himself in

CLEARCREEK TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WLWT) – A man whom police say has been impersonating an officer turned himself in on Tuesday.

Police in Clearcreek Township said Cody James Burton, 25, stopped two men riding motorcycles on May 13.

Burton was said to be driving a dark green Chevy Duramax pickup truck with firefighter markings and lights on top.

Police think Burton also posed as an officer at a restaurant in nearby Montgomery County and asked people to help pay for a meal.

Burton is charged with impersonating a police officer, unlawful restraint and possession of criminal tools.

He pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Warren County Court. He was released on his own recognizance and fitted with an electronic monitoring device.

Burton will face a judge again on May 31. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
