DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office said Wednesday a Trotwood woman has been indicted in a 2014 crash that killed one man and caused a pregnant woman to lose her baby.
Kiara Scales, 25, was indicted on two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and one count of vehicular assault.
Prosecutors say on Sunday, July 6, 2014, officers were called to the area of Siebenthaler Avenue and Philadephia Avenue on a report of a disturbance involving two cars. Shortly after that police were called to a crash at the intersection of West Grand Avenue and Forest Avenue.
Witnesses told police that Scales’ car crossed the centerline and was driving at a high rate of speed when it ran through a red light and hit a pickup truck in the intersection. The driver of the pickup truck, 60-year-old Anthony Foreman, was trapped in the vehicle and crew for the Dayton Fire Department approximately 20 minutes to free him. Foreman later died at the hospital.
A woman who was a passenger in Scales’ car was five months pregnant and suffered serious injuries. Her unborn baby died from injuries received in the crash.
Kiara Scales spoke with 2 NEWS in 2014 and said at the time this was a “life and death” situation. She told 2 NEWS, “I was scared for my life. I didn’t know what was going on. I knew that her stop– I didn’t know if she had a gun or not. I didn’t know if she was gonna kill me.”
An arrest warrant has been issued for Scales and she is scheduled to appear in court on June 9.
