Boy plays trumpet for WWII veteran after Memorial Day parade canceled

NEWBRIDGE, NY (WCMH) — The young boy, Nicholas, was scheduled to play his trumpet for his town’s Memorial Day parade, until it was canceled.

Disappointed, Nicholas’ mother, Mary Bellissimo-Degregorio, agreed to drive him along the parade route while he played his trumpet out the car window.

One of their stops during the route was to a memorial in Newbridge where they ran into a WWII veteran, who was also disappointed about the cancellation.

So the three held their own mini-Memorial Day ceremony while Nicholas played “You’re a Grand Old Flag” on his trumpet for the veteran. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
