Man struck by Jet Ski in West Carrollton in stable condition, driver arrested

WEST CARROLLTON, Ohio (WDTN) – According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Watercraft Division, 55-year-old David Shortt was struck in the head by a Jet Ski in West Carrollton Friday evening. Shortt is now recovering at Kettering Medical Center and is in stable condition.

35-year-old Matthew Whittaker was driving the Jet Ski that struck Shortt and is now in police custody. Officials say Whittaker fled the scene of the accident. Officials also confirmed Whittaker had a warrant out for his arrest at the time of the crash. Whittaker was arrested by the Franklin City Police Department.

No word yet on the charges Whittaker could be facing.

The call came in just before 6 p.m. along the Great Miami River. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is now handling the investigation.
