Dayton Police: ‘We’ve exhausted all leads’


DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) –  Dayton Police spoke with media Friday morning about the student who was stabbed at World of Wonder elementary school in May.

Lieutenant Andrew Booher said they are looking for a male suspect who is about 19 years old, light-skinned African American. Booher said investigators believe the suspect was dropped off before the attack occurred.

He also pointed out that people in the community have been cooperating with police in the investigation, but police have exhausted all leads to this point and need more information.

A reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible has been growing in recent weeks. The reward amount has reached $8, 210. The fund was established  by teachers, parents at staff of the Dayton Public Schools district.

On May 6, police said a 2nd-grader was stabbed by a stranger while playing on the swings. It happened on the playground at World of Wonder at Residence Park School in Dayton. Charmine Blunt is a parent of students at the school. She says she was waiting inside the gym when she heard commotion outside.

“All of the sudden we just hear the kids screaming and running,” Blunt said. “We were like what’s going on what’s going on. And they said a little girl got stabbed so we all run out here to see what’s going on and it was a guy with some blue shorts on.”
