ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A Santa Fe police officer is facing charges in Albuquerque for allegedly slapping a woman in the face. The Albuquerque Police Department released lapel video of the victim describing what happened.

It happened in March while APD says Officer Trace Evridge and his buddies were hanging out in downtown Albuquerque around midnight. The criminal complaint says the woman was arguing with Evridge at this parking lot. She says he’s a friend of her ex-boyfriend.

He allegedly told her quote, “I own you. This is my town. I am the law,” then slapped her so hard she suffered a cut to her left eyebrow.

The complaint says an officer overheard Evridge say he wasn’t proud of what he did but it had to be done. He also admitted he hit the woman after she hit him four times.

Evridge charged with aggravated battery and is set to go on trial at the end of the month. The Santa Fe Police Department says Evridge is now the focus of an internal affairs investigation and is on alternate duty pending the outcome. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
