DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The U.S. Navy announced Wednesday two additions to the Vectren Dayton Air Show.

A Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet flight demonstration and Redline Airshows Aerobatic Team will perform at this year’s show.

Air Show officials say the plane, known as the “Rhino”, will perform a full tactical demonstration of its front-line fighter capabilities. Dayton Air Show representatives say the speed, maneuverability and raw power of the Hornet is sure to wow air show fans.

Following the demonstration, the F-18 will conduct a special tribute to Marine Captain Jeff Kuss, U.S. Navy Blue Angel #6, who lost his life on June 2nd while performing a practice flight in a Blue Angel F-18 aircraft. That accident resulted in the Blues suspending flight operations temporarily leading to the cancellation of their appearance at Dayton this year.

Redline Airshows is a dynamic 2-ship formation aerobatic team based in Cincinnati. Team Lead Pilot Ken Reider and Wingman Jon Thocker will demonstrate their precision aerobatics that includes opposing, inverted and formation maneuvers. Ken’s proud to say that his attending the Dayton Air Show beginning at the age of 15 inspired his career in aviation. Officials say this will be Redline’s debut appearance at the Vectren Dayton Air Show. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
