COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Two groups opposed to GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump and several peace and anti-racism organizations are among the first to receive permits ahead of next month’s Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

Others include the League of Women Voters, a group that aids immigrants and a church that shows its opposition to homosexuality by picketing soldiers’ funerals.

The American Civil Liberties Union cited the issuing of permits to those and other organizations this week in a court filing Thursday.

The ACLU says Cleveland has begun issuing park permits to groups that applied long after Citizens for Trump, one of the organizations the civil rights group is representing.

The ACLU is asking a federal judge to clarify the permitting process for all applicants as soon as possible. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
