Columbus man catches 2-foot alligator walking down street

COLUMBUS (WCMH) – A man out for a walk with his son took matters into his own hands when he spotted an alligator along a Hilltop neighborhood street.

Michael Perkins tells NBC4 he was walking along South Richardson Avenue around midnight when his son saw the 2-foot-long alligator next to the curb. “I thought he was joking,” he said. “I turned around, came back and it was right up against the curb.”

Fearing that someone might eventually get bit, he went home and put together the MacGyver version of animal control supplies.

“I used a mop bucket and one of my dive fins,” Perkins said. After he scooped the small gator using the fin, he secured it using the bucket and a bingo bag. He then took it home and taped its mouth shut before calling 911.
