Intruder shot and killed while breaking into home is identified

Shooting happened on Lindale Avenue on Friday morning.

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Dayton Police say an intruder has been shot and killed while trying to break into a home.

It happened around 5:40 a.m. on Friday in the 3200 block of Lindale Avenue.

The intruder has been identified as Brian Q. Lewis, 36, of Dayton, according to the Montgomery County Coronoer’s Office. He reportedly died from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest.

Police say the homeowner was asleep inside the home when he was awakened by an intruder who threatened him. The homeowner was able to reach a firearm and shot the intruder. Medics were called to the scene, but the shooting victim succumbed to their injuries.

The 911 call from this incident was released. On that call, you can hear the homeowner describe what happened. He told the 911 operator that a man came into his bedroom and threatened him. He also said the man had a claw hammer in his hand. The homeowner explained that he grabbed a gun from his nightstand and “shot him twice.”

The homeowner was not injured.
