Dayton Police interviewing person of interest in fatal shooting

Death investigation underway.

DAYTON (WDTN) – Dayton Police confirm one woman has died after being shot in the chest.

It happened in the 1900 block of Victoria Avenue in Dayton.

The woman has been identified as 45-year-old Elanda S. Lewis.

Police have confirmed they do have a person of interest in the investigation. A sergeant spoke with 2NEWS and said the woman’s boyfriend is being interviewed and is considered a person of interest due to conflicting stories.

Dennis Baker, 41, has been booked into the Montgomery County Jail and is charged with tampering with evidence, and heaving weapons while under disability. Both are felony charges.

Police officers and detectives are talking with neighbors as they investigate. Police said they’re waiting on an autopsy to be performed to determine if the death was a murder or suicide.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the name of the 45-year-old victim in the shooting.
