Inmates found less than a mile from dumped stolen truck

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Two inmates who escaped from an Indiana prison have been arrested in Dayton.

Police said an anonymous tip led them to the suspects after they had been on the run for four days.

Chadwick Heath, 39, and Michael Roberts, 27, were booked in the Montgomery County Jail around 8 p.m. Tuesday.

According to officials, they were arrested by Dayton Police in the area of North Gettysburg and Little Richmond Roads. That’s less than two-tenths of a mile from where the two reportedly dumped a stolen truck in front of a church late Sunday night.

Heath and Roberts escaped Friday from the Fayette County Jail in Indiana. They reportedly spent weeks carving through the stone wall to break free and then stole a truck.

Prior to the escape, Roberts was being held on burglary and theft charges and Heath was held on drug-dealing charges. Now, Roberts is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on Ohio charges. Heath is awaiting extradition to Indiana. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
