Strong thunderstorms expected late Wednesday night

Damaging winds, hail and heavy rainfall likely after midnight.

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) Confidence is now high strong storms will move through the Miami Valley later tonight.  The Storm Prediction Center has all of the area under a moderate risk of seeing severe weather which doesn’t happen often.

“There will be a few showers during the afternoon but the main threat of severe weather will come after 10 p.m.,” says Storm Team 2 Meteorologist Tara Hastings, “Damaging winds, heavy rainfall, hail and I can’t rule out an isolated tornado.”

The thunderstorms will develop late this evening and then move into the Miami Valley after midnight.  Since these strong storms will move in while many people will be sleeping Hastings recommends using a NOAA Weather Radio.

“A weather radio is like a smoke alarm for severe weather. It’s going to wake you up when there’s a warning issued,” Hastings said.

Keep your cell phones charged and don’t forget to download the Storm Team 2 weather app. It will alert you when lightning has been detected in your area.
