Police investigating after elderly man found shot to death on porch

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Police are investigating after a man is found dead on his front porch in Dayton.

Police were called to a home in the 1500 block of W. Stewart St. around 5:45 p.m. on Monday.

According to the 911 call, a man was laying on the ground and was bleeding from his mouth.

“I think he’s dead ma’am…,” the caller said. “I don’t think he’s breathing.”

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the victim’s name as 70-year-old Arven Hunt, of Dayton.

Police blocked off the area for hours during their investigation.

Two people inside the home were being questioned by homicide detectives Monday night. Whether or not they were inside the home at the time of the shooting was not immediately released.

After the third deadly shooting in as many days in Dayton, police said they are going to address the problem.

“The uptick in violence here across the city is something we’re planning to address,” said Lt. Mark Ponichtera with the Dayton Police Department. “We’re trying to get a handle on it. But it’s definitely something we’re not happy about for sure.”

Anyone with information into the shooting is urged to call the Dayton Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 222-STOP (7867).
