DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Deonte Evans will spend 15 years to life behind bars.
He was sentenced Monday on charges of murder, involuntary manslaughter and child endangering in the April 2015 death of 21-month-old Keyontae Ellis.
A jury found him not guilty of felonious assault and defensive murder.
The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office said the toddler died of blunt force trauma to the torso. The toddler’s death was ruled a homicide. A pathologist who took the stand during the trial said Ellis’s injuries looked like he’d been in a bad car accident.
Investigators say Evans was watching the boy while the baby’s mother was at work at the time of her death.
