LEBANON, Ohio (WDTN) – A Chillicothe man accused of killing his cellmate has been formally indicted Monday.

Casey Pigge, 28, of Chillicothe was indicted on charges of aggravated murder and possession of a deadly weapon while under detention.

The incident happened Feb. 23 when Pigge allegedly smashed Luther Wade’s head with a cinder block, according to David Fornshell, Warren County Prosecuting Attorney.

Pigge allegedly carved mortar out of his cell wall “like something out of Shawshank,” and used the cinder block to strike Wade multiple times, killing him, according to Fornshell.

At the time of the murder, Pigge was serving a 30-year sentence to life for aggravated murder, aggravated arson and tampering with evidence, stemming from a 2009 case in Ross County.

He has been transferred to the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville following the incident. He will appear in court at 1 p.m. July 6 in the Warren County Common Pleas Court.

If convicted, he could face a maximum of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
