HUBER HEIGHTS, Ohio (WDTN) – Officials said an elderly woman is dead following a house fire in Huber Heights Wednesday.
She has been identified as 68-year-old Christine Marie Jeffery, of Huber Heights.
The call came in to officials just before 7 p.m. in the 4500 block of Korner Drive. Fire crews say they arrived on scene within five minutes of the call.
When they got to the scene, the house was reportedly fully involved. Investigators say the smoke and flames were largely isolated to one room of the house, believed to be the bedroom area.
“It is unfortunate that we are having to deal with a fatality today,” said Huber Heights Fire Chief Mark Ashworth. “Our hearts go out to the family. It’s never, never a good day when we have to deal with not only a fire at a residence but also knowing there’s a fatality involved. Very, very sorrowful.”
Once fire crews got inside, they found a person deceased. Officials are now waiting for fire investigators to arrive at the scene.
Investigators said they have not determined the cause of the fire.
The woman’s identity has not yet been released.
