Yellow Springs officer under investigation

YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio (WDTN) – A Yellow Springs Village Officer is under investigation for excessive use of force, announced Wednesday.

Officer John Whittemore is accused of using excessive force over Memorial Day Weekend, according to village police.

While the investigation is underway, he is working with a field training officer, which is standard practice, Patti Bates, village manager said.

According to a Facebook post by the police department in March, Whittemore had 15 years of law enforcement experience when he was sworn in and previously worked at Jamestown Police Department. He is trained as an evidence technician and a traffic reconstructionist.
