WAVERLY, OH (WCMH) – A mystery illness has struck Pike County, causing nausea, diarrhea and vomiting in those affected.
Individuals are reporting symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea and fever after visiting the Long’s Retreat Family Resort, according to a Pike County General Health District news release.
The health department and resort are working “jointly and diligently” to try and determine the cause of the illness.
Without speculating about the cause, they say they are exploring all avenues such as water sources into the lake, the lake itself, possible food sources from restaurants, concessions or camping sites.
Anyone who has visited the park since July 1 is encouraged to contact the health department, even if they did not experience symptoms.
The resort issued the following statement:
In accordance to state law, our lake water is tested weekly for any contaminates or concerns that the Department of Agriculture, Division of Ride and Safety, determines should be examined, including E. coli. The acceptable threshold for these levels is 126 mpn/100 ml; our most recent level, as posted on our Facebook page, was 31 mpn/100 ml.
