DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Dayton police are investigating after getting a call a body was found in the Great Miami River.

Dispatchers said they got a call around 8:30 p.m. Sunday that a body was found near the intersection of Edwin C. Moses Blvd. and Washington Street.  Dayton Police, Fire and Five Rivers MetroParks responded.

Police said two fishermen were out walking by the river bank when they came across the body and immediately called 911.

Officials said the body was that of an unknown male.  Based on the condition of the body, they could determine if it was a black, white or Hispanic male.  Nor could they tell the manner of death.

“Really the investigation is ongoing.  There’s a lot of unknowns right now so once we get some more determinations from the coroner we’ll be able to answer some more,” Five Rivers MetroParks Ranger Eric Lane said.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office will perform an autopsy to determine if foul play was involved.
