Dayton, Ohio—Bowling Green’s Brett Sullivan collected four hits and drove in three runs to lead the Hot Rods to a 9-3 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Tuesday night. The Hot Rods completed a four-game series sweep of the Dragons.
Bowling Green raced out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first, another in the second, and one more in the third to make it 4-0. The Dragons scored in the bottom of the third when Mitch Piatnik doubled and eventually scored from third on Brantley Bell’s ground out to make it 4-1.
But Bowling Green responded with four runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth to lead 9-1. The Dragons scored two in the bottom of the ninth, getting an RBI double from Bell and a sacrifice fly from James Vasquez.
The Dragons finished with nine hits but stranded a season-high 12 runners. Brantley Bell went 3 for 4 with a double, walk, stolen base, and two runs batted in. Nick Senzel also had two hits including a double along with two walks. Mitch Piatnik was 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored.
Dragons starting pitcher Austin Orewiler (2-10) was charged with the loss. He worked four and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs (four earned) on nine hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
The Dragons (12-25, 33-74) open a seven-day, eight-game road trip on Wednesday with a doubleheader at West Michigan against the Whitecaps at 6:00 p.m. Ty Boyles (3-6, 5.71) and Jesus Reyes (5-2, 2.11) will start for the Dragons in the doubleheader that comes as a result of a rain-out on July 3.
