LEBANON, Ohio (AP) — The trial of an Illinois man accused of kidnapping and fatally shooting his estranged girlfriend from Kentucky along a southwest Ohio highway has been delayed.

A Warren County judge on Monday granted Terry Froman’s request for a new lawyer and said he will set a new trial date after appointing another attorney. The 42-year-old Brookport, Illinois, man has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder and kidnapping charges in Kimberly Thomas’ 2014 slaying. His trial was set for this month.

The Mayfield, Kentucky, woman was killed on Sep. 12, 2014, along Interstate 75. Froman also is accused of killing her son in Kentucky.

Froman, who is black, also wants his trial moved. He says Warren County is “racially imbalanced.” The latest census estimates show its population as nearly 90 percent white.
