10-year-old charged in Kettering apartment fire

Firefighters work to contain a fire in the basement of an apartment in Kettering.

KETTERING, Ohio (WDTN) –  A 10-year-old child is suspected of causing a fire in Kettering that forced a family out of their home.

The fire happened August 16 in the 5400 block of Kettering Square Drive.

Kettering Police tell 2 NEWS the child is suspected of intentionally setting a pile of clothes on fire in the basement of the apartment. The fire caused minor damage to the inside of the home but the people who lived there had to stay with relatives.

The child was charged with aggravated arson and the case has been referred to the Montgomery County Juvenile Court.
