DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – From back flips to the balance beam, gymnastics took center stage during the Olympics and now some local gyms are reaping the benefits.

They call it the Olympic boom!  Every four years local gymnastics facilities say the Olympics bring an influx of children excited to sign up for classes.

Names like Simone Biles and Aly Raisman have inspired a generation to take up gymnastics, a sport that often gets overlooked outside the Olympics.

With gymnast in the spotlight and so much excitement surrounding the sport at the Olympics, one local gymnastic center said they are seeing more people signing up for classes.

“Right when school starts that when our biggest enrollment happens, because everybody’s getting settled with their routine and they want to do after school sports and that’s when we have our biggest enrollment, but with the Olympics it has more than doubled and it’s been wonderful,” owner of Performance Gymnastics Academy Olivia Busse said.  “The greatest thing is all the excitement and energy that’s in the gym now because of the Olympics.  Everybody is ready to be the next Simone Biles.”

The gym has programs for kids of all ages and skill levels.
